Meeting with the CEO 02.10.2020

The circumstances of life these past few weeks, months and years have defied understanding and threaten to crush out hope.  The evil, hatred, anger and misunderstandings throughout the world have only been overtaken by the loss of life and magnitude of grief and confusion.  Every time one thinks it can’t get any worse, something of a deeper magnitude occurs and threatens to suffocate us with the weight of the struggle to understand.  Just when one thinks we have moved through the morass and recovered to land back on our proverbial feet, another swing at our hearts minds and souls comes again.

I recall a scene in the movie Ghostbusters II.  The main characters were studying the effect of anger on a container of ectoplasm.  The inert ooze would bubble, and boil when exposed to anger, negative words and emotions.  The mixture bubbled and boiled out of the container and exploded; eventually decimated everything and everyone in the room.

As we experience the bubbling ooze of negative emotional experiences, it can feel as it the entire world is going to explode, and we all be destroyed.  Disease, poverty, murders, wars, rumors of wars, arguments, children dying, poverty and all manner of trouble, hurt and harm are bubbling and boiling.  It is as if there is a flame under a pot with no lid on top.  The ooze is exploding all over the world and it seems there is no way to turn down the heat or slow down the boil.  What can one do?  Is there any way that we as a world can survive?  What will turn off the heat?

“Love’s In Need Of Love Today”
Good morn or evening friends
Here’s your friendly announcer
I have serious news to pass on to every-body
What I’m about to say
Could mean the world’s disaster
Could change your joy and laughter to tears and pain
It’s that
Love’s in need of love today
Don’t delay
Send yours in right away
Hate’s goin’ round
Breaking many hearts
Stop it please
Before it’s gone too far
The force of evil plans
To make you its possession
And it will if we let it
Destroy ev-er-y-body
We all must take
Precautionary measures
If love and peace you treasure
Then you’ll hear me when I say
Oh that
Love’s in need of love today
love’s in need of love today
Don’t delay
don’t delay
Send yours in right away
right a-way
Hate’s goin’ round
hate’s goin’ round
Breaking many hearts
break-ing hearts
Stop it please
stop it please
Before it’s gone too far
gone too far

The most difficult thing to do is love in the face of pain and mistreatment.  The hardest thing to do is forgive the unforgiveable.  The hardest thing to do is share your light during deep darkness.  Without the reflecting and reflection of the love of God who in times of deep unbidding pain seems to be on vacation we cannot love nor can we move through our confusion and pain.  And yet, even in the Ghostbusters II movie, they found they had to turn off their negative thoughts to shrink, control and disarm the power of hatred.  When we see someone forgive the unforgivable and love the unlovable, we see the power of God shining through the darkness.  When we care for someone that seems to not deserve to be cared about, we shine the light of God.

We must never forget man has been given the freedom of choice for right or wrong.  When we see these atrocities and wonder where God is, we also see the presence of man’s choice of evil over good, right over wrong.  We all pay the price of man’s decisions.  We want to question God.  We want to turn our backs and we want to abandon all that is right and kind and real.  But we dare not.  We must press in and press on.  We must start right where we are in our homes and our environments.  Can we love our families in our homes?  Can we forgive?  Can we set boundaries based in love and not hate?  Can we disagree in love and walk off when we can’t come to a consensus?  When we go to the store and drive down the street, can we let someone who is making a mistake come into our lanes.  Can we be kind to the cashier, let someone in a hurry go before us.  Can we let love have its way for the brief second it takes to make the difference between hate and love?  One by one, one moment by moment we can turn things around.

I know some will call this Pollyanna thinking that has no place in the chaos of this world and this time.  But I write from someone who is processing deep hurts and like most people just trying to make sense out of nonsense.  Does what is happening in the world and amongst us hurt and cause confusion?  Yes?  Do we find ourselves being mistreated and misunderstood?  Yes.  Do I ever feel like I want to change the beat of my life’s drum and join the drum major of evil?  Why not?  Doesn’t look like evil is winning and love has died?  God who said he is all powerful, all knowing and caring all the time seems to have taken two sleeping pills and we are waiting for him to call the doctor in the morning.  God is not dead, and he is not sleep.  He is calling each one of us to marshal the good that is within us to share with one another and support one another and shed the light to help the lost and hurting find their way home.  Jah Love!
